On Sundays* there’s a definite ‘energy’ in the house.
For starters, we actually haven’t really been in the house for most of the day.
We’ve been on the sidelines. There’s been some food shopping, maybe some socialising and if I’ve had my way we would have lit some sort of pile of sticks in the paddock. (This is another post waiting to happen: I am perfecting my picnic basket game).
By the time we pile back inside the house, everyone is out-of-energy.
As the day draws to a close, the new week peeks into sight.
And it’s clean slate kickstarts my Sunday-arvo-motor.
**
4pm: Chop onion, garlic, grate carrot, zucchini, crush rosemary. Sweat in pan. Add mince. Brown. Chuck in passata. Winning. Kitchen smells nice, I’m ahead of the game.
4:20pm: Washing in, folded, organised into piles.
Also 4:20pm: Boys are watching the Sunday arvo footy. I would give anything NOT to be in this room at the same time. Another reason for the productivity.
And then: Clothes out for early am exercise. Pack bag with towel, shower things and change of clothes for arrival at co-working space on Monday am.
And then: Ask kids to put away clothes, get school clothes ready and pack sports bags for training in the week ahead.
And then: Vacume floors, more cleaning, maybe some flowers in a vase.
Also: Map out the week ahead and create to-do list.
Finally: Sit down with kids at the table for our Sunday Spag Bol, bring out family calendar and get them to map out their weeks.
Also in there; Probably Red Wine. Probably some scrolling.
Not in there: A bath. A run. A walk. A Sunday Sleep.
There’s always room for improvement my friends! All reasoning aside, I’m really loving this kind of Sunday afternoon/evening. That is all.
*Let’s be clear I am not talking about mornings here. I now realise; the mornings, they’re not for me. I’ve tried. I just love bed too much. That’s why I created this here newsletter, for those of you who are like me and love to be slow and sleepy and snuggly on a Sunday morning.
**To add, I’m lucky enough to have a Pilates Intense Interval Training (PIIT) class in town. It’s run by the most wonderful human - hello JB xx - and always makes Monday, a kick arse kind of day.
It gets me out of bed uber early,
Gives me endorphines
I’m sure it’s partially responsible for the lure of productivity come Sunday afternoon.
Podcast Playlist
I’ve been giving ‘What the Elle’ a try this week, it’s Elle Magazine’s new podcast. The episode with Bri Lee was good. Hopefully it makes me pick up her book ‘The Work’ which has been on my beside for weeks. I’m in such a reading slump.
Print is Dead is a new podcast for me; if your a journo or media person, you’ll be interested of course. Try this one with the editor of The New Yorker, David Remnick.
On that note: Annabelle Hickson was interviewed by The Squiz about the future of magazines (and our Company podcast cracks a mention :))
has created a Substack podcast; It’s for paying subscribers and is good! Seriously, this woman inspires me endlessly. Here she is chatting with .Lay your eyes on these Instagram accounts
