Last week, the husband went away and he did not return for six days. This was not how it was supposed to happen. Harvest. Usually I love a few nights alone but this time it propelled me into a bit of a spin. Mostly, I had not organised reinforcements to fill the gaps in school pick up and bus drop offs. I think husbands have no clue about the organisation of this and as for the mental load, pfftt. This week he was here. I was not in a spin. I’ve been making point of teaching. “You know it only takes 8 minutes to clean the kitchen, that’s what I think when I don’t want to do it.” He did his own washing and cooked for most of the week and took the kids to sport unasked. I felt good but bad. This is the dance of domesticity I am learning. Some weeks are a train wreck and in others we catch up. It’s just finding the comfort in it chaos that I need some coaching in.

I count to 120 seconds and tidy each room. That’s it. It’s amazing how much you can smash out in 2 minutes. I used to do it in 60 seconds but I’m getting slower nearer to 50.
