The days are getting awfully long. I’m writing this at 6.35pm on Saturday night and it may as well be 3pm - it’s so hot, balmy and light outside, not a hint of the sun tucking itself in. Did you know that Day Light Savings doesn’t end until April 7th here in New South Wales. That seems a very long way away, making this dls season almost as long at this year’s Xmas Holidays. Eep.
Stop being grouchy, Skye. Feb, March evenings are usually blissful - this much is true. Maybe it’s time to squeeze in some new activities - I do have a heap of old chairs to sand, maybe restoration is the order of the day, or I could walk more in our beautiful paddocks, sit near the roses and write, paint,* make sure all meals are eaten outside from this point forward or just hang with those beautiful babes of ours, who are fleetingly growing, moving forward with the seasons, not waiting for me to prefect a space, time, game in which to cherish them before they age out of our grip.
Enjoy this week’s edition dear readers. It’s show day today in our local town - so no lounging about in bed. The kids have extra pocket money to spend, artworks and lego have been submitted and there’s big pumpkins and beautiful beans to admire. Sxx
*A gorgeous friend arrived this week with lunch (a poke bowl) and brushes, paint and a canvas each. We sat on the verandah with tea and food and painted while chatting. What a complete darling.
{Podcast playlist}
I listened to Suck-cession this week. It’s the new podcast by SA based Gillian Fennell who was recently announced as a winner of the 2024 Agrifutures Acceleration Grant. Awesome name.
There’s a fresh ep of Something to Read and Something to Eat out = I tried to buy Simple Pleasures - amongst other unecessary books- in the bookshop this week.
And (paid subscribers you already know this) but on the recommendation of Sophie Hansen and Annabelle Hickson - listen to this pod with Tabitha Carvan - It’s an essay about those pre-teenage days when we were obsessed with someone, something - for me it was (I’m really exposing myself here) Dieter Brummer then, then Steve Larkham It’s pure joy and if any of you have been tay-tay-ing then the timing is right.
