There’s been a bit going on in rural parts for the past few weeks:
This is @petalandbow.flowers paddock in Coonamble, owner Emily planted over 4 million seeds of daisies (I think that’s what they are. I have so many questions - maybe I need to interview her?!) A total field of joy. What a project. It’s been the scene for a few photoshoots in the last few weeks including one from Outback Arts which is about to start the promotion of it’s This Ain’t Texas art exhibition - which also looks uber cool.
This group of women artists live in a place that ain’t Texas, but each lives an authentic creative life based on their connection to this place, the people, and its cowgirl culture. Some of them have ancestors whose very survival meant adapting to new ways, some raising the next generation of cowboys and cowgirls. Some share their lives with country animals, and some embrace the wildness of the land—the dust, sunrises, sunsets, the expanse of the starlit sky, and the eagle riding high. All of them are in it for the boots.

Woolmark’s latest campaign - Wear Wool, Not Waste - has been filling all my feeds this week. Again, it’s brilliant.
Talking about campaigns - this from Asics X Brian Cox is brilliant. It’s about unchaining yourself from the desk.
Podcast playlist
I’ve mentioned Saltbush Babes - the podcast - here before, but this episode with rural gal Sophie Elliot is a great listen. It’s in two parts - worth the time investment.
And then ….. you have to listen to this one too…..
The Town Criers is a new podcast project from Kristen Diprose (Rural Podcasting Co) - I loooooove this concept. I’ve written pages and pages on a similar idea on a podcast called ‘Our Town’ where we upskill locals in small communities to learn to podcast - and gradually equip small towns everywhere to be able to celebrate each other through podcast interviews. Everyone has a story.
Have you ever thought about applying for the AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award? I have, I did, once. The way I saw it - I had nothing to loose and heaps to gain. A $15,000 Westpac grant for each state and territory winner - and whole heap of exposure, mentoring and experience building along the way. Why wouldn’t you? You still have time to apply - and it’s a really easy process.
Applications close on Wednesday, 9 October 2024, at 12pm AEDT (NT applications close Friday, 24 January 2025).
