I bought a picnic basket the other day. Gosh it felt good. I’ve had a niggling want to create the most beautiful picnic basket for a while. I’m going to curate the hell out of that picnic basket - and it will be my comfort zone these holidays.
It will be the only thing to remain clean and sparkly while the house crumbles around me. The cute enamel cups (just two) will always be clean and not chipped and inside there will be cute treats in small glass jars. There will be a notebook and a nice pen - and no-one will steal them. It’s going to go with me on my on-farm adventures and will inspire a fresh leaf of walking, lighting sticks and hours and hours (or whole days) spent in the paddock.
My Perfect Picnic Basket Treats
Grounded Pleasures French Mint Hot Chocolate and a packet of their big marshmellows
Fancy matches from Plain & Simple
Junee Licorice and Chocolate: Dark Chocolate coffee beans
Liberty napkins from Clementine and Co. Oh and my notebook will also be from Clementine and Co too (I already have these!)
Burger Relish from Beerenburg.
Then enamel cups and side dishes from Kmart. I like these ones.
Milk, choccies, nuts, etc will be in old glass jars kept in the back of the cupboard. Then there’ll be another (clean, non dusty) cooler bag stocked with tupperware for the sausage rolls, rissoles, salads and breadrolls etc etc. The cutlery will be kept in a cute canvas zip bag (and will be washed as soon as I get home). There will also be a bottle of red wine in there somewhere too. I like this one.
How does that sound? Comfy? I’m excited about it. It been a beautiful exercise of winding down into the lovely chaos of a cold, blustery winter holidays.
Guest Editors are coming
For the next two weeks Company on Sunday’s will be curated by two special Guest Editors. Next week we will be joined by Grace Brennan. I’m excited for this one! I’m trialling Guest Editors as an ongoing event here for a few reasons……
To refresh the offering of podcasts, instagrams and articles.
As we continue to celebrate rural women doing wonderful things, I think it's important to provide a platform for readers to get into the minds of these women a little more. A Guest Editor-ship enables this.
To help me manage my time a little better over the school holiday period (!)

Beautiful inspiration for Sunday. Thank you.
Skye, I loved reading about your project to curate a beautiful picnic basket. I adore baskets. I have 2 large African baskets that I use for shopping and carrying my things about (and kids stuff and snacks). But I forget that I can put all my favourite things inside and go on a picnic. Perhaps I’ll try a winter picnic, with marshmallows and hot chocolate and croissants from the bakery at the bottom of our hill. Happy winter picnicking 🧺
