Hello dear readers, its Thea here filling in for Skye while she has some much-deserved down time over the southern school holidays.
It’s like a switch has been flicked in the north. We’ve been treated to a glorious and long wet season with colourful monsoon skies, more wet days than dry on the rainfall record and blissful afternoons splashing in puddles. Some weeks the fridge was running on a skeleton assortment of fruit and vegetables because of boggy driveways and flooded roads, but we didn’t mind one bit. Scrambled eggs for dinner, late afternoon cricket games and time to devour a book or two. We had nowhere to go, and we’re thrilled about it.
Like all good things, the wet season has come to an end. The days have shortened, the air has cooled and grader wheels have started rolling. Horses have come in to be washed and brushed, saddles greased and motorbikes serviced for the mustering season. The biccie tin is full, tucker boxes ready and slow cookers poised for the onslaught of hungry ringers who have made the migration back to the north ready to process the herd. The north is humming, and we’re excited about the season ahead.

I am a bit of fangirl of Georgie Somerset. Not only for impressive for her rich history of leadership roles but because she isn’t afraid tell it like it is. In my ears this week was Married to the Land’s chat with Georgie.
If you need a pick me up, ABC’s Make Me Feel Good has plenty of stories to inspire. This morning as I unpacked the dishwasher I marveled at voice-activated driving.
Beef Week 2024 in Rockhampton is only a couple of weeks away. The ultimate industry display of all things beef; a place to learn, share and explore. This year 8 startups will be vying not just for the judge’s attention in the Pitch in the Paddock, but the $10,000 prize on offer. The team at What’s Your Beef have interviewed the 8 finalists. Worth a listen.

Angelina Jolie did not wash for several days before this shoot for National Geographic, which she initiated. It was her idea - what a ledge - as part of her work with UNESCO and Guerlain’s Women for Bees initiative that will ultimately build 2,500 bee hives and restock 125 million bees by 2025—while training and supporting 50 women beekeepers around the globe.
It popped up in Skye’s feed literally seconds after she interview Jodie Goldsworthy of Beechworth Honey for Company - it’s fitting because Jodie herself is a huge advocate and lover of bee’s and their critical importance in the process of getting food onto our plates. Watch this short clip about the shoot process.
Skye wanted me to mention this newsletter. It’s by Cherie Stitt from The Back Room in Forbes. She writes very thoughtfully and that’s why it’s getting a mention here because we love rural peeps who’re putting themselves out there like this!
Thank you to Sorority Clothing for sponsoring this edition of Company on Sundays.
I simply adore the cut and tailoring of Sorority. They are smart and effortless and hold their shape. Needless to say, they’ve been on high rotation across North West Queensland after a long and humid summer. Spotted in Julia Creek, Cloncurry and Mount Isa.
