A confession on Daily Routines, book piles and beautiful artwork
This week when I pressed publish on Daily Routines; The Manson Podcasting Networks new podcast - I thought, that’s it, it’s time to shake it up.
The alarm was set for 5.30am, and I was to return to my Katrina Myers-esk morning ritual of wake, dress, meditate, coffee, write in my diary and if it’s an extra extra good day, walk.
Day One: Snooze, Snooze, Sleep. 6.55am. Lump myself from bed.
Day Two: Snooze, Snooze, Sleep. 7.20am roll out of bed and almost miss the school bus. Poor kids, not a good start to term.
Day Three: Didn’t bother setting the alarm. Got up at 6:45, had a coffee with the kids, no TV and had a happy start to the day.
Tomorrow: I promise to get up at 5:45 (giving myself a slice of grace)
Guys, despite this uninspiring routines re-start - I’ve been truely delighted with all the gorgeous feedback for the podcast - it truely makes my heart sings - and tells me that routines are HARD and we are all sifting our way through our everchanging, unpredictable lives. It might be the weather, your energy, hormones, workload, family demands, illness, traffic jams, conflict that changes your routine on any given day, they are idealistic I know, but it’s important for me (and you too I’m learning) to have some semblance of structure, so we can at least attempt to i) have some control ii) get some sense of achievement and iii) enjoy the days that slip by all too quickly. Annabelle Hickson of Galah is our guest for Daily Routines this coming Tuesday - don’t miss it. Her episode is wonderful, much like everything she turns her hand to. My copy of Meg Bignell’s The Angry Women’s Choir arrived this week - and no joke, the first 5 pages are a gem of an insight into the main character’s routine. You will love it. And here’s a pic of my current book pile. Sxx

The other Skye ……
Skye O’Neill is co-founder of Fieldfare Press a beautiful international publication about nature, landscape and most of all place. Skye’s originally from Australia (in fact she’s visiting here now) but now lives in the UK with her family. When I interviewed Skye for Company we spoke about how a magazines goes from idea to the real deal and what it’s like working with a small team that spans all corners of the globe. Aus, UK and US. Listen to her story here now if you like or come back later.
I love Trent Dalton’s writing, the subject matter is extremely challenging, brutal, I’d never chose it if I knew what I was starting - yet the way he presents it - I keep powering through.
